Launch of the Wilson Museum

The Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum has recently undergone a major refurbishment. After widespread public consultation the new museum was renamed “The Wilson” in honour of the Wilsons of Cheltenham and Edward Wilson of the Antarctic in particular.

Demands for a Museum to be named in Cheltenham in honour of Dr Edward Wilson of the Antarctic started shortly after his death with letters appearing in the local press.

Launch of the Antarctic Notebooks

Edward Wilson’s Antarctic Notebooks were launched at the London Wetlands Centre by Sir David Attenborough, who was interviewed on ITV Meridian for the launch.

14th December 2011 The Centenary of Roald Amundsen reaching the South Pole was celebrated in Oslo. His Majesty King Harald V was presented with a selection of polar books to celebrate the occassion, including The Lost Photographs of Captain Scott and Edward Wilson's Antarctic Notebooks.
